The Port-musée is a must-see when you come to Douarnenez, as it’s the only museum of its kind in France. Dedicated to boats and to mankind from Brittany and further afield, the museum invites you on a journey of discovery through the maritime cultures of Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.

On land…

The permanent exhibition space on land covers 1,500m² with around twenty different vessels, various objects from the sea, a zone that focuses on how fish is preserved in tins, and 1,300m² of temporary exhibitions.

and on sea

You’ll find 8 boats floating in the harbour just outside the museum, including 5 that you can board and explore: the barge ‘Dieu Protège’, the steam tug ‘Saint Denys’, the buoy tender ‘Roi Gradlon’, the Norwegian Galleass ‘Anna-Rosa’ and the Arabian dhow ‘Nizwa’.
During the summer season, you and your family can take part in various maritime activities and craft demonstrations on the quayside.
