Exhibition by Anna Le Moine Gray: “Enchantments on the Island”

Anna Le Moine Gray’s life is closely linked to island life and nature. Born in Brittany, the painter grew up on the island of Jersey, where she developed her sensitivity and her keen eye for reality. After several years in England, where she notably painted the official portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her Diamond Jubilee and created a series of bird paintings for the National Trust, she has now returned to Brittany. Based in Cap Sizun, her work draws inspiration from her surroundings: the landscapes, flora and fauna. She strives to “capture the visible, the perceptible and the ephemeral” in order to “learn to see, to understand, to love and to safeguard these living species and the very world that sustains them”. This exhibition presents a selection of works by Anna Le Moine Gray, capturing moments of nature to open visitors’ eyes to the enchantment that nature offers every day. It resonates all the more strongly in this natural island setting. Alluring and mysterious, Tristan Island lends itself to daydreaming. The magic of its vegetation, the richness of its history and its legends make it an enchanting place, perfect for wonder and contemplation. It is also a haven of tranquillity and rest for a wide variety of wildlife, which can be observed with patience and discretion. Whilst nature is a source of inspiration for artists, art can also be a powerful tool for raising awareness of the environment and biodiversity. This exhibition helps visitors discover the richness of our natural heritage and inspires the younger generation to learn about and preserve it.
